Civikas partnerships into action.
Project overview
Baglan, Swansea Bay
Capabilities demonstrated: Senior stakeholder engagement, site strategy and visioning.
Client: Arup and Welsh Office
Date: From March 2023
The job to be done
Engaging a wide range of senior stakeholders in government, businesses, academia and the local communities, to think about and agree on a strategy for the future of this 900 acre site.
The key challenges
Baglan is the largest brownfield site in Wales. Its legacy is well-understood, but its future is yet to be agreed. Many stakeholders need to be involved in shaping its future as an economic driving force in Wales and the wider UK.
The approach taken
Working with colleagues in Arup and the Welsh Office we are developing a series of physical/spatial options for the site. These will be informed by a range of stakeholder engagements and a quantitative analysis of the key innovation assets and capabilities in the region. Civikas is helping to shape the options and will be leading the stakeholder engagement with a wide range of public and private sector institutions, businesses and academic teams.
Outcome and impact
The outcome of the work will be a strategy for Baglan that enables innovative businesses and other organisations to compete in local, regional and international markets, provide jobs and training opportunities for local people, and protect the natural capital of this important site.
