What and Why?

Sometimes it just isn’t clear why a partnership or existing the project really matters, who will benefit, or how it will be sustained. Research (we sometime call it Discovery), is about understanding client, stakeholder, and customer needs in detail.

  • What do they want or need to do, better or for the first time?

  • How is that different from now?

  • What is the gap that needs to be bridged and why does it exist?

  • What is the new approach, product, or service that will deliver what matters?

Who benefits from what we do?

Cities, companies, or teams that need to:

  • Understand and unpack a complex or long-term challenge to better understand the landscape or ‘system’ before designing a new approach.

  • Work together, across organisational boundaries, to co-create sustainable and inclusive solutions to complex challenges and opportunities

  • Develop a new partnership, project, or product and want to be clear on the strategy and its impact before acting.

Where have we done this before? Examples include:

  • Helping a Mayoral Combined Authority and 4 local councils think about the purpose of innovation-led economic growth - and their priorities for investment.

  • Working with senior stakeholders in Cambridge to consider their shared objectives and value proposition for a new innovation district.

  • Working with a research centre, Insights North East, to understand and define inclusive innovation and how these ideas might be embedded into future strategies.

  • Working with a global engineering consultancy to develop an outline business case for a large economic regeneration project in Wales.
